Mumbai: L'Oréal India has opened a Rs 50.crore state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in India with a capacity expandable up to 100 million units per annum.

The company has commissioned the plant near Pune, providing proximity to the company''s head office in Mumbai. The plant will manufacture hair care, hair colour and skin care products for the Indian market as well as for export to neighbouring countries. Consumers will benefit from the most advanced production quality standards, with manufacturing processes in the plant taking place in well-defined, isolated zones to minimize contamination. The new facility is equipped with the most modern of effluent treatment plants.

High industrial "standards, like those found at L''Oréal''s plant in Pune, are the key to securing growth in new markets. Our new plant will serve as a benchmark for our industry in India and elsewhere — encouraging excellence in the people we employ as well as the suppliers we work with", stated Marcel Lafforgue, executive vice president, production and technology, L''Oréal S.A. The investment in creating the additional production capacity sets L''Oréal on track for continued steady growth in the Indian market, where the company grew by 33.4 percent in 2003.

Didier Villanueva, managing director, L''Oréal India said, "The growth of L''Oréal India is a result of our strategy to provide new, different and better products to the Indian consumer. We have been able to create a market for our products and this investment should help us gain bigger volumes."
