KBL acquires 90-per cent stake in S Africa’s Braybar Pumps for Rs11 crore

Kirloskar Brothers (KBL) maker of water pumps, today acquired a 90-per cent stake South Africa's privately owned Braybar Pumps for Rs11 crore.

The acquisition, which was made through KBL's wholly-owned subsidiary company Kirloskar Brothers International B V, Netherlands, will enable it to establish its footprints in the mining industry in South Africa.

Founded in 1888 by a VJTI teacher Laxmanrao Kirloskar, KBL, one of the world's largest pump manufacturers and India's largest manufacturer and exporter of pumps is aiming to be key player in the South African market with this acquisition.

Apex, Benoni, South Africa-based Braybar Pumps was founded in 1986, is a supplier and repairer of pumps, like Harland, KSB, Rapid Sulzer, Howden and Kirloskar and also specialises in the manufacture and repair of white metal bearings.

Braybar Pumps has well established repair and in-house machining facilities. The acquisition would provide KBL immediate supply and service base, for its products in South African markets.

Since Braybar Pumps has vast experience in the rich mining sector, KBL hopes to expand on this and set its footprints in the booming mining industry in South Africa.
