Mumbai: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that it has established an agreement with Cyberstar, an authorised Hitachi distributor, to support a nation wide Extended warranty programme in India. End-users, systems integrators and OEMs can now extend the warranty of Hitachi Deskstar hard drives purchased from an authorised distributor in India after May 1, 2004.

The agreement with Cyberstar will enable Hitachi GST to further differentiate itself in India by enhancing the service value of its Deskstar product family, which is already well known for high capacity and excellent reliability and performance.

"ATA desktop drives account for more than 90 per cent of the market in India, so the Extended warranty programme will be a significant value-added service for customers," said Pete Andreyev, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Hitachi GST. "We realise that three-year warranties are important to customers in India, so we are pleased to be supporting this key initiative."

The India Extended warranty programme is now available for all Deskstar family products, which include 40GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB ATA100 models, that come with a standard 2MB cache and one-year warranty. Customers have the option to buy the Extended Warranty certificate from Hitachi GST authorised distributors at the time of drive purchase.

"Hitachi's award-winning technology gives us, at Cyberstar, a compelling advantage in distributing hard disk drive products in India," R. K. Rathi, Director, Cyberstar. "In a short span of time since entering the Indian market, Hitachi has listened to the customers and delivered the right programs to meet their needs. Initiatives such as the Extended Warranty for Hitachi Deskstar drives, in combination with Cyberstar's deep market knowledge and experience, will ensure that our customers will receive outstanding service and technology."
