PSU Hindustan Copper exceeds target while private players lag

Chennai: The total production of copper cathode in the organised sector during April-July 2006 was 1,84,114 tonne against 1,49,307 tonne in the same period last year. According to a release from the union ministry of mines and minerals, the public sector Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) has produced 11,772 tonne against a target of 11,720 tonne. The private sector units Hindalco Industries Limited produced 88,623 tonne against a target of 1,03,575 tonne and Sterlite Industries (India) Limited produced 83,719 tonne against a target of 96,078 tonne.

The total production of copper cathode in July 2006 was 53,244 tonne. Out of this HCL produced 2,682 tonnes, Hindalco 23,953 tonne and Sterlite Industries 26,609 tonne.
