Honda Motor to recall 1,156 Honda Civic for fuel line defect

Honda Motor Co yesterday said that it will recall 1,156 new Honda Civic compact cars in the US and Canada due to a fuel line defect, which could potentially leak a small amount of fuel.
The car maker said that during manufacture of the fuel line assembly, an O-ring may have been displaced, which could potentially lead to a fuel leak at a joint where two segments of pipe attach to each other.
The recall pertains to model-year 2012 Civic vehicles in the US and Canada, but most of the affected vehicles have not yet been sold and Honda said that it will replace the fuel feed line prior to sale.
Honda first realised the problem in April, when a worker on the production line found out that some of the newly-assembled Honda Civics were emitting an unusual fuel odour.
The 2012 Civic went on sale earlier this year and is the third most popular car in the US, behind Toyota Corolla and the Honda Accord.
No injuries or fires have been reported related to this defect.
Honda is contacting owners of the affected vehicles that have already been sold and the automaker will pay for repairs for free.
