The Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) turned out to be a ''roaring success'' with strong participation from smaller cities like Ranchi, Guntur and Hubli as people from the cities used mobile phones to shop.

The three-day event, which closed on Saturday, drew 450 sellers across categories.

''gosf.in 2014 was a roaring success, with all partners seeing great engagements across product categories. We got 80 lakh visits to the site during the three-day festival. And a total of over 1.4 crore visits to the site including promotion period,'' Google India industry director eCommerce Nitin Bawankule said.

He added as against last year, the user engagement was up by seven times from 20 lakh visits.

He added people from 220 cities in India shopped in the festival. He added, Google saw huge consumer involvement and participation from smaller cities like Ranchi, Guntur, Hubli, Bareilly, Firozpur, etc.

He said many first time buyers shopped in the  'Rs299 corner' with some smaller partners reporting growth of five to seven times in their daily conversions.

According to Bawankule, about 40 per cent of users accessed the event via mobile.

Maximum engagement and sales were registered in electronics, lifestyle, home and kitchen among others.

Brands such as Motorola Nexus 6, Google Chromecast and Appyaappstore (an app store for kids) used GOSF as a platform to launch new products.

BestMediaInfo.com reported Praveen Sinha, co-founder and managing director, Jabong as saying "GOSF this year had witnessed a great response from consumers."

He added, three days of the shopping carnival was in no way less than some annual festival that customers awaited around this time of the year. He said on the first day itself, the company had observed an extraordinary leap as the revenue rose four to five times compared to normal sales on any regular day.

There had been an increase in revenue from mobile at least by six times as against the last GOSF and even traffic from GOSF on the website had significantly increased by eight times as against the last year.

Sinha added, the tremendous excitement shown by customers had made the company open doors to some of the best offers from exclusive brands like River Island, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge and more. He added, the retailer was geared to double the excitement and make this festival bigger, better and brighter like never before.
