Google confirms acquisition of Gecko Design

Google has confirmed of its acquisition of Gecko Design that is aimed at boosting its Google Lab, which is devoted to technology-advancing projects such as self-driving cars and Glass Glass.

California-based Gecko Design was founded eight years ago and specialises in working with engineers on designs early in the creation of new products.

"This is an incredible opportunity for everyone at Gecko," president Jacques Gagne said in a post on the company's website. Referring to Google's research lab, he further added, "We are very excited and honored to join Google X and work on a variety of cutting edge products".

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Among Google X's better known projects are the self-driving car, Google Glass, and Project Loon, while Gecko designs include the FitBit calorie tracker, the Slingbox, and the Sonos Zone Player.

Jacques Gagnes, president of Gecko and its four employees would join Google X. Google had been working with the search giant for the last one year.
