Mumbai: Enron managing director Wade Cline on 11 September 2001 strongly reacted to the claim made by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) that Dabhol Power Company (DPC) is selling power at an expensive rate.

Reacting to MSEBs past claim that DPCs Rs 8.80 per unit power is too expensive, Cline if MSEB were to buy power from DPC at a 90 per cent plant load factor, the cost of power will be just Rs 4.40 per unit. "Even this cost can be further reduced to Rs 3.80 if the naphtha supply is exempted from state and Central taxes," he said.

Cline also said that the MSEB is in a position to buy power at a 90-per cent plant load factor from DPC. "This should be more easy for the MSEB because the board is currently facing a daily shortfall of more than 800 mw."
