In keeping with its aggressive pricing strategy in the Indian consumer PC market, Compaq Computer India Pvt. Ltd. has launched a full-feature, multimedia Compaq Presario 4010 at a price point of Rs. 29,995, exclusive of the monitor.

The announcement reflects Compaq's commitment to bring Indian consumers a quality home computing experience at the most competitive prices on the market. Compaq has now managed to slip under the barrier of Rs 30,000, even if it is without the monitor. Buyers have a choice of a 15" colour monitor priced at Rs.9,995 or a 17" colour monitor for Rs. 15,995.

The 400 MHz Intel Celeron processor-based Presario 4010 offers powerful, advanced multimedia features such as
a 32X CD-ROM drive, Aureal A3D Surround Sound (True theater quality sound) and 4.3 GB hard-disk which is essential for a home PC. The PC comes with free software worth Rs. 15,000 and 10 hours of free Internet time. In addition, the Easy
Access Internet keyboard allows a one-touch access to the net.

Compaq gives consumers a choice of peripherals to go with the Compaq Presario 4010 multimedia PC. Consumers can buy the PC with a modem for Rs. 32,995. A colour printer for a price of Rs. 3,400 and a scanner for Rs. 3,500 complete
the package for those who require these add-ons.

The announcement is strategic as it helps Compaq make inroads into the PC replacement market by offering an attractive upgrade path. In addition, for price-conscious consumers, the Compaq Presario 4010 allows the option of purchasing a feature-rich PC in a phased manner without compromising on their investment.

"Compaq Presario has always been a leader when it comes to aggressively pricing our products to give consumers the advantage. The Compaq Presario 4010 at Rs. 29,995 offers prospective PC buyers, a complete home PC, with Internet and multimedia functionality at never-before prices," comments Ravi Swaminathan, director, consumer division, Compaq Computer (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Compaq will provide support and services through on-call service centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Pune, Cochin and Ahmedabad.
