Chennai: The Gurgaon-based Carrier Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary of the US-based Carrier Corp - has launched energy efficient air conditioners. The two new brands – Durakool and Estrella are available in 0.75 tonne, 1 ton, 1.5 tonne and 2 tonne capacities. The price ranges between Rs20,000 to Rs40,000.

According to managing director Zubin Irani, the products will be labelled under India's Bureau of Energy Efficiency norms. "The savings in the operational costs will be more than the initial investment made," he claimed.

According to him, the company is taking advantage of the boom in the IT, ITES and the retail sectors. Though Irani talked about the company's growing market share, he declined to give concrete numbers- units sold or tonnage installed.
