BPLs Nambiar feted for pioneering work

Kochi: BPL group of industries chairman T P G Nambiar has been selected for the V Gangadharan Smaraka Award 2001.

Nambiar was chosen for the award for his vision of pioneering a variety of products and services in the consumer electronics and communication industry, says G Madhavan Nair, chairman of the five-member jury committee.

Nambiar founded BPL in 1963 and has four decades of experience in the field of electronics. He was the motivating force behind the expansion and diversification of BPL from a single product company to a leading manufacturer of a wide range of electronic and communication products.

The jury committee, which received as many as 60 nominations from a cross-section of eminent persons, gave weightage to original contributions by individuals in the IT industry in areas related to development and supply of products and services, in arriving at its final decision.

The award, comprising Rs 25,000 and citation, will be presented at a grand function at Kollam in October 2002.
