BMW, Aston Martin Lagonda to recall 16,000 vehicles

BMW and the privately-held Aston Martin Lagonda will recall around 16,000 vehicles built and sold in China due to airbag and gearbox issues,  the country's official Xinhua News Agency said.

Beginning 25 August, BMW and its Chinese joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd, would recall 15,474 of the 3-series cars due to defects in their airbags. According to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, they could malfunction in humid environments.

Starting 20 July, Aston Martin Lagonda would recall 317 cars due to defective gearboxes that could trigger a loss of power in certain DB9, Virage Coupe and Virage S models.

According to Xinhua, the luxury-car manufacturers would replace the relevant parts free of charge in both cases.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin confirmed the revived Lagonda its new super saloon would be the ''finest of fast cars,'' www.malaymailonline.com reported. The new model would be hand-built as acstrictly limited edition and users who wanted one would have to wait to be invited.
