Bharti Airtel appoints former Nigerian chief justice as chairman, Airtel Nigeria

Former Nigerian chief justice Alfa BelgoreTelecom service provider Bharti Airtel, which has operations across 20 countries in Asia and Africa, has appointed retired Justice Alfa Belgore as chairman of Airtel Nigeria.

Justice Alfa Belgore, a former chief justice of the Republic of Nigeria, had served as a magistrate in Northern Nigeria and chairman of several high level tribunals and commissions of inquiry in the country.

''His wealth of experience will add immense value to the Board and provide strategic guidance to our Nigeria operations,'' said Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer Christian de Faria.

Belgore had served from 1986 as a key member in the technical committee on law, justice and development in Africa and also sat at the governing council of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and National Archives.

In 1992, he was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
