Chennai: The commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland has bagged two significant export orders from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. While the Sri Lankan order is for fully-built buses, the other one is for CKD form. The two new orders are together worth over Rs 34 crore.

The Sri Lankan contract with the People Leasing Company (PLC), is for 250 fully-built, 42-seater Viking buses. This comes close on the heels of the execution of a similar order from PLC, which has in the last four years bought 1,300 buses from Ashok Leyland.

Ashok Leyland has also signed a long-term agreement with Pragoti Industries, a Bangladesh government enterprise, for supplying 300 Stag mini buses in CKD form. This follows the supply of 120 Stag kits so far to Pragoti Industries.

Ashok Leyland is midway through the supply of 500 numbers 16-tonner trucks to Pragoti Industries. Ashok Leyland's exports during April-July 2002 logged 624 numbers as against 354 in the same period last year.
