Aurobindo Pharma epilepsy drug gets Canadian approval

Drug maker Aurobindo Pharma said today it has received the Canadian health regulator's approval for Topiramate tablets used in the treatment of epilepsy and migraine.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said it had received approval for its abbreviated new drug submission for Topiramate tablets from Health Canada.

According to the filing the tablets are available in four strengths- 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg.

Health Canada is the Canadian government body responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve health.

This marks the company's 9th product approval from the Health Canada, it said.

Topiramate tablets are the generic equivalent of Canadian firm Janssen-Ortho Inc's Tapomax tablets, the company said its statement.
