Aurobindo wins FDA nod for generic drug

Drug maker Aurobindo Pharma Ltd informed the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday that it had secured the US Food and Drug Administration's approval to sell carisoprodol tablets in that country.

Carisoprodol USP 350mg is a muscle relaxant and the generic version of Meda Pharmaceuticals' Soma tablets, the company said in a statement. The tablet is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.

The product had a market size of approximately $98 million for the 12 months ended March 2009, according to Newport, and would be launched soon.
