Apple has lined up an iPad mini with Retina display and also a thinner iPad for launch by year end, according to reports.

Bloomberg however, reported there was no clarity as yet as to whether the redesigned 9.7-inch iPad and Retina display iPad mini would be launched simultaneously.

The news agency cited a source as saying, the next version of the iPad would be adapted to have an appearance more on lines of the current iPad Mini with rounded corners and thinner sides.

There were no further details of the new iPad Mini though, apart from the addition of Retina display, as featured in the current iPad.

With a new Retina display the new iPad Mini would line up with other devices from the company, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and MacBook Pro. The current iPad Mini comes with a lower-resolution 132ppi screen from LG and Taiwan's AU Optronics.

Apple uses the 'Retina Display' brand name for its liquid crystal displays, in which pixilation is imperceptible to the human eye. The higher resolution screens are by no means exclusive to Apple, other brands too offer higher resolution screens, but these are marketed simply as high definition.

The California-based company would be looking to  the double-product launch, when it happens, to lift tablet sales, after global shipments of the devices fell in the second quarter of this year from the first quarter.

Meanwhile, according to industry experts, with no fresh iPad releases, the market vendors experienced a lull in the market which is expected to continue into the third quarter, while in the fourth quarter  new products from Apple, Amazon would drive impressive growth in the market.

According to the online grapevine, the iPhone 5S, slated for release 10 September would feature a protruding, sapphire button rather than the concave plastic one which the devices currently come with.
