Tesla Motors Inc and AT&T Inc have joined hands to bring mobile connectivity in Tesla's vehicles.

The connection would be used to offer internet access inside Tesla's cars in addition delivering performance information about the vehicle for remote maintenance.

The deal would see AT&T provide a 3G or HSPA+, also known as 4G, connection to Tesla Motors Inc's vehicles.

The electric vehicles would be able to deliver performance data from a remote location using a SIM card and a modem.

This would allow Tesla to better serve customers by delivering maintenance and diagnostic testing from afar.

Additionally, passengers inside the automaker's vehicles would be able to surf the web, watch videos or do whatever else they wanted to do on their mobile internet connection.

AT&T Inc had, in the past, offered a cell connection for Tesla's Model S for infotainment purposes.

The new partnership between Tesla and AT&T was about offering more functionality over that connection.

Tesla Motors Inc is just the latest maker of automobiles to release details about a deal with AT&T Inc after General Motors Company and Nissan also signed deals with the carrier for a cell connection.

AT&T is keen to create a new stream of revenue with slowing growth in its core business.
