After Domino's Pizza, another fast food chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), has partnered Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to sell fast-food items on trains across the country.

With this, KFC has extended its marketing network beyond its outlets and expanded its customer base throughout the country.

The facility, which is now available on 12 trains passing through New Delhi railway station and will be extended to Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad (Kacheguda) and Bengaluru (Yesvantpur) stations over the next 10 days.

KFC is the second fast food chain after pizza maker Donino's to tie-up with the Railways to exploit the vast marketing opportunity that the national rail network offers.

''In India, train journeys and meals are inextricably linked and we are excited to bring KFC's e-catering service to Indian Railways. As a much-loved restaurant brand, we think that this initiative gives us a great opportunity to bring the craveable taste and quality of KFC to our fans, even when they are travelling. We intend to expand the service to other stations over the next few days,'' Dhruv Kaul, chief marketing officer, KFC India, said in a statement.

Consumers will have to visit the IRCTC website or call on 18001034139 to place their order. A password will then be sent by KFC to the consumer's mobile phone, which will have to be mentioned at the time of delivery.

The service will initially be limited to trains which lack pantry cars and subsequently be expanded to trains like Rajdhani and Duronto.

With a wide variety of passengers to choose from, the tie-up with IRCTC opens up new vistas for the fast food chains to make available their popular food brands through its newly launched e-catering services.

Reports said Domino's now offers delivery of pizzas on more than 200 trains and is gearing up to market its pizzas on several other trains as well in coming months.
