Moser Baer Technologies, Universal Display Corp tie up for energy-efficient lighting system
07 Feb 2011
Moser Baer Technologies, a US subsidiary of Moser Baer India Ltd, today announced a technology licensing agreement with Universal Display Corporation, under which the former will use the latter's 'organic light emitting device' (OLED) lighting technology.
The technology agreement is under a US government programme that granted the two companies $40,00,000 from the US Department of Energy to design and build the first white OLED lighting pilot manufacturing facility in the US.
Under the agreement, Moser Baer Technologies and Universal Display will work together in a five-year programme to support Moser Baer's manufacture of white Phosphorescent OLED (PHOLED) lighting products.
The establishment of Moser Baer Technologies' pilot manufacturing facility is a key next step in the development of a manufacturing base and market for white OLED lighting products in the US, the companies said in a joint statement.
The panels so developed will be made available to luminaire manufacturers to help seed the market for a range of new white OLED lighting products in the $90 billion lighting market, the release said.
"We are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with Moser Baer Technologies," said V Abramson, president and chief executive of Universal Display. "The memorandum of agreement will accelerate the development and manufacturing of phosphorescent OLED lighting panels by Moser Baer. Universal Display's PHOLED technology and materials provide excellent performance characteristics that translate into energy savings, environmental benefits and cost effectiveness. Those benefits are key to enabling the manufacture of highly-efficient white OLED lighting products by companies such as Moser Baer Technologies," he added.
