Maruti Suzuki to recall 1 lakh A stars

After the global recalls by Toyota and Honda for defects in their cars, it is the turn of another Japanese carmaker, Suzuki, to issue a recall through its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki for defective fuel pump gaskets in A star hatchback model.
Delhi-based Maruti Suzuki, the largest automobile maker in India and South Asia has issued a recall for around 100,000 units of its A Star small hatchback sold both locally and overseas to replace defective fuel pump gaskets and O rings.
According to media reports, Maruti Suzuki noticed in November 2009 during its regular quality monitoring drill that the rubber part of the fuel pump gaskets and O rings were defective leading to fuel leakages or might lead to leakages.
The company said that although it has not received any complaints from customers, the problem occurs at the fuel station, when fuel is filled beyond the fuel auto cutoff point, which can lead to fuel leaking from the fuel pump mounting area.
Only the A star hatchback model made till August 22 2009 were affected with this problem, according to the carmaker.
By December 2009, Maruti Suzuki started getting in touch with customers through phone and SMS's, asking them to get the fuel pump gaskets and O rings replaced free of cost.
