Indian Railways’ e-ticketing and catering arm IRCTC has added another feature to its e-ticketing window to facilitate faster booking of tickets, including tickets under the Tatkal quota.
IRCTC has now introduced an e-wallet facility that allows passengers registered with IRCTC to deposit money and use it for booking tickets, thereby also avoiding the payment gateway that takes more time and at times costs the passenger the chance of booking a ticket.
Through its mobile app IRCTC Rail Connect, IRCTC e-wallet users can book rail e-tickets, including Tatkal quota, IRCTC said in a Twitter post.
“Like other e-wallets — Paytm and Mobikwik — IRCTC e-wallet allows its users to deposit money in advance with IRCTC, which can be used as a payment option while booking train tickets. This e-wallet facility of IRCTC will help you save time by eliminating payment approval cycle,” IRCTC stated on its website.
For availing of the facility to book ticket through IRCTC e-wallet:
- Login to IRCTC with existing IRCTC user ID and password;
- Click the "IRCTC eWallet Registration" link under IRCTC eWallet Section in the "Plan my travel" page;
- Complete verification process by providing PAN OR Aadhaar and other details;
- Deposit one-time registration fee of Rs50 (excluding service tax) online with any of the available payment options;
- Credit the IRCTC e-wallet account with the minimum deposit of Rs100 and top up with the required booking amount. Maximum amount permitted in user's account is Rs10,000;
- Pay ticket booking amount through IRCTC eWallet, which is displayed as payment option along with other banks.
Besides the e-wallet facility, IRCTC's Rail Connect app provides cab booking facility. It has tied up with cab aggregator Ola for the same.
IRCTC also said that passengers can now order food through IRCTC Food on Track app. "Now your favourite food is just a click away even during Train Journey!
