Grasim forced to suspend staple fibre production at Nagda plant

An acute shortage of water has forced Grasim Industries Ltd, the flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, to stop production at its staple fibre plant at Nagda, Madhya Pradesh.
The plant is likely to be closed from tomorrow (3 June) till the onset of monsoon, the company said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
"The company has to curtail production at its stable fibre plant located at Nagda and the said plant is likely to be closed from June 3, 2011 till the onset of monsoon," Grasim said in its filing with the BSE.
Grasim, however, said the other staple fibre plants at Kharach (Gujarat) and Harihar (Karnataka) will continue production at full capacity.
Grasim's three staple fibre plants have a combined production capacity of 3,33,975 tonnes per annum.
The company has also curtailed chlor-alkali production at Nagda to about 50 per cent of the plant's rated capacity of 2,58,000 TPA.
