Government to borrow Rs2,87,000 crore in first half of 2010-11

The central government will borrow Rs2,87,000 crore from the market in the first half of the financial year 2010-11 (ie, from 1 April 2010 to 30 September 2010) - about 63 per cent of the planned borrowing for the fiscal.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue Rs5,000-6,000 crore worth of government paper of below 5-year tenure, Rs4,000-5,000 crore paper of 10-14 year tenure and Rs2,000-3,000 crore of 15-19 year paper, for a total of Rs12,000 crore during 5-9 April 2010.

RBI will sell Rs5,000-6,000 crore paper of below 5-9-year tenure, Rs5,000-6,000 crore paper of 10-14 year tenure and Rs2,000-3,000 crore of 20-year paper, for a total of Rs13,000 crore during 12-16 April 2010.

RBI will sell 5-9 year paper for Rs5,000-6,000 crore, 10-14 year paper for Rs4,000-5,000 crore and 15-19 year paper for  Rs2,000-3,000 crore, for a total of Rs12,000 crore during 19-23 April 2010.

RBI will sell another set of 5-9 year paper for Rs5,000-6,000 crore, 10-14 year paper for Rs4,000-5,000 crore and 20-year and above paper for Rs2,000-3,000 crore, for a total of Rs12,000 crore during 26-30 April 2010.

In May, RBI has lined up sales of 5-9 year paper for Rs6,000-7,000 crore, 10-14 year paper for Rs5,000-6,000 crore, 15-19-year paper for Rs2,000-3,000 crore and 20-year and above paper for Rs.2,000-3,000 crore, for a total of Rs15,000 crore between 3rd and 7th of the month.
