Now at KFC: a meal and a powerbank for just Rs150

Perhaps the biggest problem with even the smartest smartphones is the battery – it always seems to die when you need it most. Latching on to this, fast-food major Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is offering its Indian customers a free powerbank with their orders.

The company has launched a deal it calls Watt a Box in India, which offers an assortment of food and a 6,100mAh powerbank. That's technically enough to fully charge two phones, but BGR India found that many of the boxes didn't offer enough juice for even one phone.

The power bank is removable, though, and is given at no extra cost to KFC's five-in-one meal, priced at just Rs150. It is not clear how the company can afford or sustain such an expensive promo.

The new addition allows KFC to offer "an element of utility". To make this happen, the fast food chain partnered with a Mumbai-based digital agency called Blink Digital. The pair had launched a Plate of Hope campaign last month to feed India's underprivileged children through the World Food Program.

So far, KFC's Watt a Box is exclusively available in select Indian outlets. Currently the fast food chain is serving it to customers in its Delhi and Mumbai outlets.
