Hungry online surfers spell success for Domino's

Internet users are increasingly flogging Domino's websites for a bite of pizza, with internet deliveries accounting for 40 per cent of  total deliveries across more than 600 stores in UK and Ireland, up 29 per cent from last year, the pizza giant reported.

Domino's Pizza UK & Ireland saw a 10 per like-for-like growth in sales for three months up till 26 September. This rise is below the 18 per cent growth recorded by the pizza chain over the last two quarters but compares with last year's quarter results.

Online sales saw 70 per cent rise with £33 million in the duration, a rise of £19.6 million since last year. Total revenues recorded were £352.8 million, up 20 per cent over same last year.

Domino's, which started selling pizza's online in 1999, had relaunched its website, dominos.co.uk, in April, which helped boost the sales. On the website, pizza lovers can order at their nearby Domino's outlet by entering their postcode.

Internet orders helped the pizza maker sustain the growth recorded last year with its highly successful ''Two for Tuesdays'' promotional offer that enables customers to get two medium or two large pizzas for the price of one.

Domino's had also seen spurt in sales earlier this year, driven by the demand during the World Cup. Besides, its sponsorship for Simon Cowell's show Britain's Got Talent also boosted the sales.
