Only four Tesla cars stolen in the US since 2003

While there could be any number of reasons for buying a Tesla, perhaps the one on which it won hands down, was the near zero-per cent chance of it getting stolen.
According to mailonline, in fact, of the four Teslas stolen since 2003, three were stolen in 2013 - one each in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.
And prior to that, only one Tesla was stolen since the company was set up in 2003.
That gives Tesla a theft rate of roughly 0.15 per 1,000 cars produced, while the average theft rate for all cars was roughly 3.58 thefts per 1,000 vehicles produced, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Tesla's theft rate of 0.15 per 1,000 vehicles produced, was better than almost all other popular luxury vehicles.
Teslas comes with a base price of roughly $70,000 - but that had not made them a target for thieves
Also the cars' impressive theft statistic could not be attributed to the fact that there were not many Tesla's on the road; MarketWatch quoted IBIS World lead analyst Brandon Ruiz, "the auto maker sold about 20,000 cars in the US last year."
