Aston Martin joins flood of luxury cars in India

India's well-heeled seem to have very deep pockets, going by the slew of ultra-luxury cars that are being launched in India almost every week.
The latest is British carmaker Aston Martin, which joins Ferrari, Maserati and Volkswagen's Bugatti and Lamborghini units in India.
Aston Martin, made famous as fictional super-spy James Bond's preferred ride, today launched three models in India, starting at Rs1.35 crore and going up to Rs20 crore.
The company will sell the V8 Vantage at Rs1.35 crore onwards; the Rapide from Rs2.3 crore, the DBS (both hard-top and convertible) from Rs2.5 crore; and its ultimate offering, the One-77, from Rs20 crore.
"India represents a new opportunity for us," Michael van der Sande, chief commercial officer at Aston Martin, said at the launch. "A decision to bring the Aston Martin brand to India is driven by a strong level of interest and enthusiasm from potential customers in an emerging luxury market."
The Gaydon, England-based Aston Martin has tied up with Performance Cars (a division of Infinity Cars) to open its dealership in Mumbai today. The second dealership will be opened in New Delhi shortly.
