2008 British International Motor Show: Vauxhall debuts Insignia saloon and Insignia hatchback
01 Aug 2008
Mumbai: General Motors owned, Vauxhall has unveiled two new body styles - the four-door saloon and five-door hatchback versions of the new Insignia for the first time at the British International Motor Show, at ExCel in London. The mid-size family car will compete against the likes of the new Honda Accord, and Mazda6 in its segment.
Both Insignia body styles boast a flowing, muscular, yet elegant silhouette with a coupé roofline. Designers deliberately created similar versions to retain the beauty of Vauxhall's latest mid-sized car. The length of both the saloon and hatchback is 4830mm with a wheelbase of 2737mm.
Insignia's fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and driving dynamics benefit from the aerodynamic efficiency that was perfected as a result of hours spent in the wind tunnel. The result: a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.27.
Five engine variants will be available for both Insignia hatch and saloon, all of which meet Euro 5 emissions standards and come coupled with six-speed transmissions. The three petrol engines range from a fourcylinder 140PS unit to a V6 with 260PS. Two new 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-diesels exclusively developed for the Insignia have power outputs spanning from 130 to 160PS.
Insignia's suspension has been tuned to suit British roads as Britain is the biggest market for the new car.The newly developed chassis can be enhanced with the innovative FlexRide system, as well as the sophisticated Adaptive 4x4. Its lightning-fast distribution of torque over the four wheels ensures peerless stability and traction while benefiting dynamic performance.
Both models are expected to hit the UK showrooms at end of 2008
