Chrysler issues second recall within a fortnight

Chrysler will recall 489,000 vehicles, its second recall in two weeks of vehicles with defects in them. The latest recall is for its 328,424 Durango sports utility vehicles, manufactured between 2004 and 2006, due to faulty internal electrical circuits that have led to concerns over overheating.

Another 149,605 Jeep Liberty vehicles, made between 2006 and 2007, are being recalled for air-conditioning glitches, while 10,994 of its latest Dodge Avenger saloon models need to have door locking problems fixed.

Two weeks ago the firm recalled more than 50,000 vehicles to resolve a problem with anti-lock brakes.

Chrysler says it would notify owners of the affected vehicles which are suffering air conditioning, electrical and door lock problems.

The auto maker, once among the ''big 3'' of global automakers is believed to have been put on sale by its German owner, DaimlerChrysler. In 2006, Chrysler made a loss of €124 million ($162 million / approximately Rs712 crore).

As part of its turnaround, DaimlerChrysler has cut 13,000 jobs at Chrysler and closed down one of its plants.
