Singapore Airlines' regional subsidiary SilkAir has announced that it will launch a service to the south Indian city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, the carrier's third destination in India.

Starting October 2007, SilkAir plans to operate three flights a week from Singapore to Coimbatore.

The airline already flies to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, both also in southern India, and the proposed Coimbatore service is subject to regulatory approval from aviation authorities in both Singapore and India.

SilkAir is a full-service regional carrier and has a large network, flying from Singapore to popular holiday destinations like Phuket, Kunming, Langkawi and Cebu.
