German flagship carrier Lufthansa yesterday said that it is seeking a buyer for part of its IT unit Lufthansa Systems as part of its plan to focus on its core business.

The Cologne-based company plans to split Lufthansa Systems into three separate companies - Infrastructure, Airline Solutions and Industry Solutions.

Lufthansa will then find an international IT service partner for its infrastructure division through a tender process and then contract out its infrastructure services to the new partner as part of a long-term agreement.

The Airline Solutions and Industry Solutions divisions will be retained as independent companies operating within the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa said that its infrastructure division, which comprises of data centre, security, communications, SAP, web services, and enterprise information management, needs a high level of investment because it demands a steady stream of product portfolio improvements and strong, sustained growth.
