Japanese low-cost airline A&F Aviation renamed Peach Aviation
25 May 2011
Osaka, Japan: Japanese low-cost carrier, A&F Aviation Co, announced Tuesday it had renamed itself as Peach Aviation Ltd. A&F is partially owned by All Nippon Airways Co. The company said it settled on Peach as its brand name as the fruit is popular in Asia.
"We will make air travel easier and Japanese and Asian destinations closer to customers," Peach Aviation chief executive officer Shinichi Inoue told a news conference in Osaka.
The company has also shifted base from Tokyo to a location near Kansai International Airport.
Peach will commence operations next year at fares that would be some 50 per cent lower than those offered currently by major Japanese carriers. "It'll be meaningless if we don't offer prices that no one has seen," Inoue said.
Peach Aviation will start domestic operations next March, connecting Fukuoka and Sapporo. International flights between Kansai International and Seoul are expected to start next May.
The company said it plans to increase the number of employees from the current 50 to around 200 by the end of fiscal 2011.
