The country's premier no-frills carrier IndiGo has received government permission for launching international operations after it completes five years of domestic operations in August.

IndiGo, which recently placed the world's largest aircraft order, plans to operate flights to Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai and Muscat soon.

The airline had recently placed orders for 150 planes with European manufacturer Airbus.

To launch international operations an airline should have a minimum strength of 20 aircraft.

IndiGo, which emerged the second-largest domestic operator after Jet Airways in terms of number of passengers carried in December 2010, will be launching international operations from the forthcoming summer schedule, which begins in April and continues till October-November.

IndiGo plans to operate flights from several India cities to overseas locations such as Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai and Muscat, an airline spokesperson said.
