The Paris Air Show begins Monday
16 Jun 2007
The event is being held at its traditional location of Le Bourget, made famous in 1927 with Charles Lindbergh landing here after his first non-stop flight from New York to Paris.
As for the current edition of the show, analysts expect deals for at least 300 planes, worth $30 billion at list prices, to be announced at the event. The airlines expected to announce deals are Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qantas subsidiary Jetstar, India's Kingfisher and US Airways.
Along with aircraft, engine makers, such as GE Aviation and Rolls Royce, may also announce deals.
For the current edition, organisers expect 500,000 visitors, 2,000 exhibitors and 140 aircraft to be put on display. The last edition, held in 2005, attracted 480,000 visitors, including 220,000 trade-related attendees.
As for flying demonstrations some 40 are expected to take place, including the Airbus A380 superjumbo, Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet and the Eurocopter Tigre attack helicopter.
The Indian representation will occur through the HAL designed and built Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas, for which it will be a debut trip abroad. While one unit will provide the flying demonstration, another will be on static display.
