Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air will now charge for each bag passengers check in. The baggage charge will be €3 per bag if paid at the time of booking and €6 if paid after, through a call centre or at the airport. Last October, the airline began charging if there was more than one checked-in bag.

The airline said it was charging passengers according to their needs, and would use the new charge to keep airfares down. It also said it would introduce new measures to speed up check-in and increase the efficiency of the baggage handling process. Wizz Air passengers are encouraged to take as few bags as they can to save time and increase the efficiency of the check-in process.

The measures, which started 1 August, will apply to all passengers who book from August onwards, for travel after 27 October. All passengers who booked before to travel after 27 October will not be charged at the airport.

The new policy does not change present rules that allows only one handbag on board not  exceeding 10 kg. The excess baggage charge of €8 euros for each kg over the 20 kg maximum allowance also remains unchanged.
