Now domestic frequent fliers may get compensated for flight delays; it will cost only Rs129 more, reports CNBC-TV18.
Tata AIG will now insure Indian travellers for flight delays beyond six hours with a new domestic travel insurance cover, in association with Spicejet Airlines.
Available at a flat premium of just, Rs129, domestic travelers can buy this policy, while booking their e-tickets on Spicejet.
The compensation for the flight delay will keep going up for every six hours up to 48 hours by Rs1,500. The first of its kind domestic travel insurance policy also covers passengers for medical expenses, as well as for cancellation, provided they meet certain conditions.
But with the increase in the number of Indian travellers and even bigger increases in flight delays, the company is betting big on the growth of the domestic travel insurance policy.
"We have already sold about a 1,000 policies since morning for over 50 flights; so that stands at 20 per cent of the total number of tickets," says Khalid Sohail, Head-Travel Insurance, Tata AIG General.
While taking insurance for international travel has been the norm, there have been no takers for domestic insurance. But with persistent problem of flight delays, especially due to fog and monsoons, covers like this could be of great use for the Indian traveller.
