Sensex
above 15,600 points
Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex continued its rise and
crossed 15,600 in early trades today with diverse index
stocks Bharti Airtel, Infosys, L&T, Tata Motors, Reliance,
Reliance Communications, Ranbaxy and Tata Steel continuing
their secular gains.
The
Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex, flared up by 103 points
at a new high of 15,653.53 points, up 103.40 points.
Similarly,
the wide-based National Stock Exchange's index Nifty rose
28.30 points at 4,590.40.

Dow
crosses 14000 mark
Mumbai: The US markets rose on Thursday, taking the
Dow Jones industrial average to close over the 14,000
mark for the first time at 14000.41, a rise of 82.19 points
(0.59 per cent).
The
surge was attributed to technology and industrial sectors
performing beyond expectations leading to a resurgence
of earnings optimism, despite Federal Reserve chairman
Ben Bernanke fuelling caution on the sub prime market.
The
Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 6.91 points, (0.45
per cent) at 1,553.08.
The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 20.55 points, (0.76
per cent) to close at 2,720.04 after going up to 2,724.74
- a six-and-a-half year peak.

Oil
prices ease
Crude oil prices eased slightly in Asian trades today
indicating a respite from their sustained rise.
Brent
North Sea crude for September delivery eased 15 cents
to $77.52 a barrel.
Light
sweet crude, New York's main oil futures contract, for
August delivery was 12 cents lower at $75.80 per barrel
from $75.92 in late US trades yesterday -- a fresh 11-month
high.
