India
imposes dumping duty on CD-Rs from China and HK
New Delhi: India has imposed dumping duty on imports
of compact discs-recordables (CD-Rs) from China, Hong
Kong, Singapore and Chinese Taipei to provide relief to
domestic producers of CD-Rs like Moser Baer.
The central board of excise and customs has notified the
imposition of anti-dumping duty in the range of $0.050
to $0.099 per piece.
The
domestic industry had petitioned the government against
dumping of cheap CD-Rs from these countries as they were
eroding their margins.
The
designated authority-directorate general of anti-dumping
(DGAD) and allied duties had made a recommendation to
the CBEC in this regard. The authority, in its final findings,
had concluded that the CD-Rs had entered Indian market
from the identified countries at prices less than their
normal value in the domestic market.

Franchise
deals out of FDI norms: FinMin
New Delhi: According to the Finance ministry the current
restrictions that prohibit FDI in multi-brand retail cannot
be extended to franchise agreements between an Indian
company and an overseas partner which are basically service
agreements. The ministry feels that in the case of services
there can be no distinction between retail and wholesale,
hence the present guidelines can only apply to retail
in goods and not franchise agreements, hold ministry officials.
There
have been speculations about the government banning franchise
arrangements, which many consider a loophole that single-brand
and multi-brand retail giants have been leveraging to
enter India.
