Gelli resigns, board to meet today
Hyderabad: Ramesh Gelli finally stepped down
after serving for seven years as the chairman and managing director of Global Trust Bank.
Dr Jayanta Madhab, a promoter of the bank, is tipped to take over as non-executive
chairman as the bank is also splitting the post into two. Wednesday.
Gelli says he will request the board of directors of the bank to choose "independent
professionals" for chairman and managing director.
The meeting had been scheduled for late afternoon on Thursday.
GTB sources said Gellis resignation was was an
internal decision of the bank and added that these steps were being taken on
recommendations of Nobel & Hewitt.
But sources in UTI Bank said that RBI had asked Gelli to step down from the CMD level as
it did not want GTB to be affected in any way in the event the alleged insider trading
charges were proved against Gelli.
The bank has short-listed three candidates for the chairmans post: a former State
Bank of India executive, a former private sector banker and an internal candidate
former Corporation Bank CMD and presently director, Institute of Banking Personnel
Selection, R S Hugar. Hugar joined the bank board earlier this year.
Gellis departure in such a fashion is ironic considering he was the first banker to
have been conferred with the Padmashree title in recognition for his service to the
banking sector in the country.

Seattle: Among the changes in senior management portfolios announced at
Microsoft last Thursday, perhaps the most significant is that of Brad Chase. The man, who

Spokesman Matt Pilla said the change was not made public when the company announced a
series of other executive shifts in its MSN division last week. Chase made his decision
about the same time as those staffing changes were announced.
Microsofts consumer-oriented MSN division includes the company's popular Web sites,
browsers, Hotmail e-mail and instant messenger system.
Among the changes announced last Thursday, group vice president Bob Muglia was put in
charge of the Personal Services Group, a division for creating subscription-based premium
services for .NET that includes parts of MSN.
Microsoft vice president Yusuf Mehdi was put in charge of the MSN and Personal Services
Business Group, responsible for network programming, business development and sales and
