Tata bags two prizes in a day
Mumbai: It was a day to
remember for Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata Group.
In a span of barely seven hours he was
awarded two coveted awards.
In the morning he was given the Unit Trust
of India sponsored National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2000, a citation
and a trophy, by the Reserve Bank of India governor, Bimal Jalan. The award was for the
spectacular turnaround of Tata Steel.
Later on during the day, at the crowded
hall of the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC), he was given the Outstanding Businessman of
the year award at the hands of C Rangarajan, the Andhra Pradesh governor.
When asked how he felt winning two awards
on the same day, he quipped "Tired."

Bhojani
joins Amarchand as partner
Mumbai: SH Bhojani, deputy managing
director of ICICI and the financial institutions legal brains, has decided to join
leading law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, as its partner
on his retirement from the institution on Aril 22. He will be the firms 15th
partner.
An expert in corporate law, Bhojani
became an executive director of ICICI in April 1996, and was subsequently made the deputy
managing director.
The firm has been broadbasing its
partnership pattern in line with the recommendations of Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
which advised on the recast of the 80-year-old firm.
The restructuring, drafted two years ago,
also focusses on investment in technology, charting out the career development path for
associates and introduction of a market-driven compensation structure.
