Mr. Panagariya appointed chief economist of ADB
New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Dr Arvind Panagariya, professor of economics at Maryland University in the United States, as chief economist. Prof. Panagariya will take up the position in early April.

Prof. Panagariya, co-director for the University of Maryland’s Centre for International Economics, has had extensive experience with multilateral institutions. He also worked for the World Bank as a research economist from 1989 to 1993 and has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

He holds a doctorate in economics from Princeton University, and is widely acknowledged to be one of the foremost international trade economists of his generation and has written extensively on economic reforms, especially relating to trade policies in Asia.
