Mr. Muthuraman to be new MD of
Tata Steel
Mumbai: Tata Steel managing director JJ
Irani will be succeeded by Mr. B Muthuraman as the managing director (MD) with effect from
July 22, 2001. Dr Irani (65) retires in June this year.
Mr. Muthuraman, 56, was appointed the new
MD of Tata Steel by the company's board last Monday. He is currently the executive
director (special projects).
As the executive director, Mr. Muthuraman
has been responsible for the conceptualisation, formation and implementation of Tata
Steel's new cold rolling mill project at Jamshedpur. He is also director on the boards of
Tata Pigments and Tata Ryerson.
Mr. Muthuraman has been associated with
implementation of several projects at Tata Steel. He has successfully implemented the CR
mill in record time, and is expected to steer the task of completing the galvanised CR
mill, which will manufacture high quality galvanised steel for the automobile sector and
the white goods sector. Mr. Muthuraman is a B.Tech (metallurgy) from Indian Institute of
Technology, Madras, and holds a post graduate diploma in business management with
specialisation in marketing and finance from XLRI, Jamshedpur. He joined Tata Steel as a
graduate trainee in 1966 and has a wealth of experience working in various divisions of
the company.
