Steel production rises by 12%
New Delhi:
Steel production during the first nine months of the current fiscal has shown a 12 per cent growth at 22.15 million tonnes from 19.77 million tonnes during the same period last year.

Export of finished steel during April-December 2000 has been estimated at 23 lakh tonnes, an increase of 2.5 per cent, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Production of saleable steel in the integrated and the special steel plants of Steel Authority of India Ltd.(SAIL) during these nine months was 7.44 million tonnes, comprising 96 per cent of the target and three per cent increase over production during the same period in 1999-2000. The Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) produced 33.23 lakh tonnes of iron ore concentrates and 18.82 lakh tonnes of pellets during these nine months. Vizag Steel Plant produced 1.8 million tonnes of saleable steel against a target of 1.6 million tonnes set for these nine months.
