Arun Netravali gets Padma Bhushan
New Delhi: Mr. Arun Netravali, the only
Indian to be the president of world's most advanced and sophisticated research centre Bell
Laboratories has been awarded Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contributions, on the eve
of Republic Day.
Mr. Netravali, who holds more than 70
patents in the areas of computer networks, human interfaces to machines, picture
processing and digital television thinks that the new telecommunications technologies
could be used to improve the conditions of people. He is currently working on a blueprint
for India in the areas of communications and information technology, leveraging the
existing infrastructure with latest technical know-how.
Mr. Netravali a member of the Indo-US
Science and Technology Forum and the NRI Advisory Committee on Telecom is a B Tech from
IIT, Mumbai. He completed his MS and Ph.D. degrees from Rice University in Houston.
