Mr. Homi R. Khusrokhan to head Tata Tea
Mumbai:
Mr. Homi R Khusrokhan, former managing director, of Glaxo India will take charge as the new managing director of Tata Tea. He succeeds Mr. S.M Kidwai, who retired late last year. Mr. Khusrokhan’s appointment is the second such senior position in the Tata group to be filled by an outsider in recent months. Mr. Khusrokhan worked for pharmaceuticals major Glaxo for 30 years and was recognised as one of the top 30 managers of Glaxo worldwide.

The Tata Tea board has also appointed Mr. P T Siganporia as deputy managing director.

Mr. V Venkiteswaran, currently president of Tata Tea Inc, the US-based subsidiary of Tata Tea, has also joined the board as executive director.
The new appointments will take effect from February 15.

Mr. V Thyagarajan to also head SmithKline Pharma
Mumbai: vice-chairman and managing director of Glaxo India, has been appointed managing director of SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals India, with immediate effect. The SmithKline Beecham board approved the appointment at a meeting held on Monday.

Mr. Thyagarajan's appointment is part of the process of the integration of the two companies, following the global merger of the UK drug majors GlaxoWellcome and SmithKline Beecham to form GlaxoSmithKline. GlaxoSmithKline has 51 % stake in both the Indian companies.

Mr. Mukesh Ambani on biotech task force
Mumbai
: Mr. Mukesh Ambani, managing director of Reliance Industries, among other leading industry figures like former Hindustan Lever CEO Ashok Ganguly, Swati Piramal, Leela Poonawala (ex-Alfa Laval), has been appointed on a high-level task force on bio-technology to be headed by Mr. R.A Mashelkar, director-general of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The task force set by the Maharashtra State government would primarily look into opportunities and potential for investment in biotechnology, the likely growth of this sector and the need for a special policy for an "hassle-free" environment.

Mr. K. Saran new CMD of EIL
New Delhi: Mr. Keshav Saran, formerly director, projects, National Thermal Power Corporation has been appointed as the new chairman-cum-managing director of Engineers India, a leading engineering contracting company for petroleum projects. Mr Saran brings with him vast experience in marketing including international marketing, project management and other disciplines of management. Prior to NTPC he has worked with BHEL for fifteen years. He has also worked as director, marketing, ONGC on a deputation from BHEL.
Mr. Saran is an electrical engineer with an MBA and a law graduate and holds a postgraduate diploma in industrial management. He is also chairman of several committees including the technical committee of the World Council of Power Utilities for third international conference to be held in September 2001.
