Indra Nooyi takes over as
PepsiCos CFO
New York: Ms. Indra Nooyis appointment as chief
financial officer of PepsiCo Inc. last Monday, could not have come at a more opportune
time, for this high profile Indian-born women, who has already headed several top-notch
executive positions in corporate America. With the recent announcement of Pepsico
Incs $13.4 billion acquisition of Quacker Oats Co. to be completed in he first or
second quarter of next year, Ms. Nooyi is eventually expected to further expand on her
duties at PepsiCo and assume the additional post of president.
Ms.Nooyi joined Pepsico six years ago and has
been involved in every major strategic decision the company has made including the
decision to spin off its fast food chain in 1997, the drive to acquire Tropicana in 1998
and the decision to cast off Pepsicos bottling operations.
Born in India, Ms. Nooyi went to the United
States in 1978 to attend Yale Universitys graduate school of management and
subsequently joined the Boston Consulting Group. She later moved to Motorola Inc as vice
president looking after corporate and business strategy and planning, a role she continued
to play at Asea Brown Boveri, before she joined PepsiCo to assist its chief Roger Enrico.
Ms Nooyi, 44, balances her high profile
business career with her family, consisting of husband, who is a management consultant and
two daughters aged 16 and 7 years.
