Infotech sector not affected by economic slowdown
Mumbai:  In a recent study carried out by Economic Times, it has been seen that the recent economic slowdown has not affected the infotech sector.

An analysis of the performance of 214 companies, for which quarterly results were available as on date, showed that their aggregate sales were up 14 per cent to Rs 25,463 crore during the quarter ended September 2000. However, the aggregate net profit has shown a growth of only 6 per cent to Rs 2,397 crore during the period.

The study also showed that while companies belonging to sectors such as infotech, bank, steel, paper and telecommunication (equipment) have flourished, those belonging to automobile, cement, hotels and financial services sector have performed below general expectations.

Most infotech companies have announced impressive performances. In fact, major players like Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computers and Global Telesystems have announced a more than two-fold rise in their earnings.
