JC Jetli new DVC chief
Calcutta: After a gap of
three years without a chairman, the power ministry has finally appointed Mr. JC Jetli as
chairman of the the Damodar Valley Corporation. The last chairman, Mr. Badal Sengupta
retired on November 30, 1997. During the intervening period, former DVC secretary A K
Mishra officiated as chairman till August 1.
Jetli takes over the reins at a critical point when the dynamics of power scenario in
eastern region is slated to undergo a dramatic change in less than a month.
With the new state of Jharkhand scheduled to come into existence from November 1,
two-thirds of DVCs 25,000 sq km command area (currently in Bihar) will shift to the
new state. In that light, one of Jetlis principal challenges will be to recover the
mammoth Rs 1,000-crore dues that BSEB owes DVC.
