BT denies resignation of Sir Ian
Vallance
London: Reacting to media reports that Sir Ian Vallance, chairman of British
Telecommunications, had agreed to step down in January 2001, the telecom giant issued
press clarifications denying the reports. The company insisted that the chairman will
continue for at least two years, when his contract expires.
Sir Vallance has been in the thick of problems, with the
citys major financial analysts holding him responsible for frustrating attempts at
reform at the telecom giant. This latest media report is one more in the series of
"whispering campaign" against the chairman.
The denial was issued after consultation with both Sir Ian
and Sir Peter Bonfield, BT's chief executive.
